‘Police Paying High Price Serving the Community’ – Australia Wide, ABC Television
ABC ‘Australia Wide’ presenter Laetitia Lemke opens the story saying, ‘Everyday around the country thousands of police men and women are on the job serving the community. But they pay a higher price than most in the course of their daily duties. Their exposure to repeated trauma and distress leaves them particularly vulnerable to mental health issues and suicide risk. Now some Queensland Police officers have decided to share that personal toll with Australia Wide.’
Daryl Elliott Green is one of the brave Queensland Police officers who speaks up in this interview, about his experiences in the police. He talks about the night in May 2000 that he and two colleagues were ambush and shot by a gunman, and how the ordeal weighted heavily in the years that followed.
Daryl now speaks to other police around the country and has produced a short film with Director Michael Hanson that gives an insight into his recovery.
